Below is the job posting for the Executive Director of a very important position in Katrina-torn Louisana---running an innovative construction sector labor management project. Please circulate it to all whom you think could be helpful in filling the position.

Gulf Coast Workforce Development Project
Announcement for Executive Director

The Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, seeks to fill an executive-level position to build and lead a major initiative in the Gulf Coast region that will act as a workforce development engine for the region. The Executive Director position requires an entrepreneurial, creative, and experienced leader who is ready to break new ground in the area of developing (recruiting, training, and placing) a new construction workforce at the same time as linking that workforce to the growing number of construction jobs in residential, commercial, and industrial construction in the New Orleans and Gulf Coast region. This will require working across multiple institutions in the private, public, labor union, and non-profit sectors in an effective and time sensitive manner.
The position requires a person with significant experience in managing a complex operation involving the coordination of multiple groups, including building trades unions and the larger labor movement, contractors, end users, community groups, the public sector and the development community. The position also will require keen organization-building skills and the ability to manage labor/community/industry coalitions.
Significant high-level experience in the construction sector, and knowledge and background working with the building trades will be essential for this position. At the same time, given the magnitude and complexity of the reconstruction efforts in the region and path breaking work anticipated for the Project, the individual will need to have significant experience in the area of urban development, including working with private, public, and not-for-profit institutions in developing and implementing major initiatives. Background in residential development will be particularly useful given the magnitude of housing challenges in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Finally, the person will need the organizational skills to work with multiple stakeholders in political settings that will draw significant public attention.
Specific duties include:

· Managing diverse staff, including workforce development coordinator (and trainers, in-take specialists, etc.), worker services coordinator (and community liaisons, outreach specialists, etc.), and contractor services coordinator;
· Organizing and managing a project advisory council (with national organization representatives) and advisory boards for each of the three project components;
· Interacting with national leaders of building trades unions, economic and social justice organizations (NUL, NAACP, etc.) and high-level government officials
· Managing multi-million budget;
· Representing Workforce Development Project in local, regional and national media and other venues.
Competitive executive salary D.O.E. Full benefits package.
The Project will be based in or near New Orleans, Louisiana.
