  1. Do I need fall protection for all roofing work? Any work at or above 6 feet requires fall protection under federal safety standards. The type of protection—harness, guardrail, or net—depends on the situation and the hazard. Never work at height without confirming your protection class with a site supervisor or safety officer first.
  2. How often should I inspect my equipment? Ladders, harnesses and protective gear should be visually inspected before every use and formally tagged and tested annually if they’re in regular service. Any equipment showing damage, corrosion, cracks or wear must be tagged "Do Not Use" and removed from the job immediately.
  3. What is the difference between a Type I and Type II ladder? Type I ladders are rated for 250 pounds and are built for heavy-duty industrial use. Type II ladders are rated for 225 pounds and are designed for general household and light commercial work. Choose based on the application and never exceed the ladder’s load rating under any circumstances.
  4. Do I need a different harness for different roof angles? Fall protection harness design doesn’t change with roof angle, but the anchor points and tie-off technique do. Steeper pitches require more secure anchor points and shorter tie-off distances to minimize swing hazard. Always consult the harness manual and your site safety plan for the specific configuration.
  5. Can I mix equipment brands for a fall protection system? No. Fall protection is a system, and every component must be engineered and tested together. Mixing harnesses, lanyards and anchors from different manufacturers voids the certification and creates unpredictable failure modes. Use only matched components from a single manufacturer.
